Portsmouth has had, if we observe them from a neutral fan perspective, a very interesting season so far with lots of ups and downs. After an unbelievably poor start to the season, manager Steve Cotterille’s side has gone through a period of excellent displays and results and it even seemed they’d be maybe manage to fight for a playoff spot. However, they again got back to their poor habits and are currently at the 18th spot with the main goal of avoiding relegation. Their recent form isn’t good as they were defeated in the last 5 out of 8 matches. The positive thing for Pompey is that they have reached the win in the last match against Doncaster, and that should give them some confidence before this clash.
Above the expectations
Barnsley has had a great season for their standards, and even though a battle for top 6 seems out of reach, their fans can be very pleased with the position their club’s in. Barnsley is currently 4th with 11 points over the relegation zone sides, so it seems like the pre-season estimations how they’d be relegation candidates are totally unjustified. As usual, their mid-table spot means their form isn’t consistent and that can be seen just by looking at their recent record as they recorded 2 wins, losses and draw in each of the last 6 matches they’ve played. In the last match, they somehow managed to steal one point from Ipswich literally in the dying moments of the match, so it can be concluded they don’t lack fighting spirit for sure.
Pompey playing for a goal more
Portsmouth obviously has got the home field advantage here but their form isn’t at the usual level. What can be noticed is that the hosts play games full of goals when they’re at home, and due to that fact and possibly an open battle, I’m gonna go for the goals here.
