This club was found back in 1933, but it’s needless to even discuss their history as their condition has dramatically changed since 2005. since when nothing has been the same. Well, in 2005. the club was bought by the eccentric Austrian billioner of Croatian origin, Dietrich Mateschitz, the owner of the Red Bull company, whose total value is estimated at 12 billion euros. After the arrival to the club, Red Bull announced drastic changes. First, they changed the club name for their marketing purposes, the entire club board has been changed so the new owners declared that the Red Bull Salzburg will be a club of no previous history from that date. That caused their fans to riot who didn’t want to forget about their huge 72-year old history before that. The fans’ anger melted as a candle after the enormous financial investments made in this small club, and they’re one of the rare, if not only Austrian team, who became real bait for the players from rich German Bundesliga. The club has overgrown the Austrian Bundesliga’s standards long time ago, as they’ve won there everything they possible could, and judging by the capacity and the quality of their squad, they could be equally playing against most of the strong German Bundesliga sides. In the 2009/10 season, one really impressive fact about them is that they had 22 consecutive wins. With 33 points won on the road, they were the most lethal visiting team of the league. They’re playing very organized and dynamic football, with lots of changes of the sides, the ball mostly moves on the ground using the characteristic short passes, and they’re also really tough on the flanks being a huge threat for the opposing defenses on many occasions. I’ve watched them a few times live and I have to say I was amazed.
Weak visitors
Weak guests with a big heart and the desire to stay in Bundesliga will have a very tough task this upcoming weekend. They are arriving to Salzburg after a great performance against Rapid (2:2) but at a very unpleasant moment as the hosts desperately need a win. The quality gap is more than huge, and cute Mattersburg side is currently placed second to the last at the 9th spot in the tables. Their away form is horrible, which is best proven by the stats of only 2 wins and as many as 5 losses with a negative 6:12 goal difference.
Red Bull getting out of crisis
Playing in two big competitions at the same time, domestic league and EL groups have left its mark on Red Bull’s results this season. A few recent matches we see an obvious crisis in their results and morale and they’re winless for as many as 4 matches now (1 loss, 3 draws). But the upcoming weekend I’ve got no doubts, the weak rival is perfect for improving their stats and pumping their morale. I’m almost positive the handicap will be covered as well, and my confidence on this pick was boosted when I took a look at their previous meetings. The last 5 mutual clashes played in Salzburg were resolved in Red Bull’s favor by 2 or more goals every time. I don’t see why such stats would change now. Good luck!
