5-5 vs. Crewe at home and 2-2 vs. Wednesday at Hillsborough. Two games played in previous week and gave us 14 goals! John Sheridan`s offensive style has worked well enough when it came to put the ball to the back of the net,and also to create chances. His team, however, just failed at the back most recently. In midweek`s JPT fixture, they competed with a higher division team, they did not give away their offensive minded football, create 4-5 certain chances against a very solid Wednesday defence and came too close to win the game in regular time. But a late penalty whistle helped the game to be taken to penalty shoot-outs where 22 penalties were taken and Chesterfield were knocked out. Chesterfield is a very entertaining team to watch. Conversely to many lower division teams, they don`t stand at the back and try long balls. John Sheridan has always been talking about his aim to build a passing style and positive football. May be not yet,but Chesterfield really impress with the way they play. Striker Dean Morgan, who scored the first goal at Hillsborough is reported doubt through a groin injury but he played in midweeks despinte having had been reported as a slight doubt, too. He`s likely to start tomorrow. Morgan aside,no major injuries for John Sheridan.
Rising on the court despite being financially down.
Paul Sturruck took over a team which was depleted due to financial problems. A lot of players were released and he had to built a team all over with cheaper players. They are now sitting in mid-table whereas they were expected to be located to the lower end of the table just by the season starts. So many players went over their career highs by 10th weeks of season. Stiker Barry Corr scored 4 league goals so far (1 shy from his career high) while another striker Blair scored 3 goals so far ( 3 shy from his career high) , midfielder Anthony Grant, who had only one goal through his entire professional career scored 4 goals! Sturrock took more than he expected from his pals and they seem to have taken the wind behind to push team. Chesterfield is a good opposition for them to keep their passionate style going on. Striker Barry Corr is a slight doubt but as mentioned,Southend`s style of play and strategy doesn`t depend on the names in line-up. Any replacement can do the same job done. Their last visit was a 3:4 notable victory for Southend.
Chesterfield to be involved in another high scoring game.
Both teams like to play open games. Southend`s quality might come a bit short to handle hosts pressure, but Chesterfield`s offensive style might cause them major troubles at the back through fast Southend counters. That`s what Chesterfield suffered of so far. With Dean Morgan,Craig Davies,Danny Whitaker, veteran Jack Lester and Dwyane Mattis, hosts can create chances and find the net as well. I see nothing but a high scoring game.
