The current Dutch champs were quite merciless at their home ground last season, Out of the 17 matches, they won as many as 16 of them. A lot of credit for that goes to their English coach Steve McClaren, who moved to Wolfsburg this year and was replaced by Belgian Michel Preud’homme. It’s clear there is still a lot of work to be done with the new squad as the Belgian didn’t fix everything according to his plans, and this season he also has got to participate in Champions League and often has to rest many of his key players in the league. It can be said that Twente’s players have been preoccupied their thoughts with CL at the start of the season, so they’re wasting some important points in Eredivisie at home. One win and 2 draws surely isn’t something expected by their fans, and they gave away some important points to Ajax as well, who is their direct title rival. Of course, now they have to make up for the poor results and record some consecutive wins as they’re already behind 4 big points in the championship. They don’t have too many expensive and famous stars in their squad but they do have a great team spirit, team work and excellent organization of their play.
A very good side
Popular “Green Angels” from Groningen are a very good side, currently being third in the standings, playing some really beautiful and efficient football and are also undefeated in the league so far. They’re well-organized, and don’t have an inferiority complex against the bigger clubs so they will surely prove to be a very unpleasant rival to everybody. They’re tough on the road, having a 1-2-0 record there, with a positive 5:2 goal difference.
The hosts have got to win
Holland has extremely even league with a few big clubs: Ajax, Twente and PSV, who almost every year fight a great battle till the end for the title. Twente is now already behind by 4 huge points in the standings and they have to get back to the winning ways in front of their home crowd. Their expectations and dreams about playing some more important role in CL this year vanished quickly when they got demolished to Tottenham by 4:1. A lot of bitterness remained in their squad after that defeat so they will now surely give their best to prove to themselves but to everybody else as well that they’re at least the best team in their own country. They will fight hard in this match and eventually I believe that thanks to the home field advantage and more quality they’ve got over Groningen, they will record a win. Good luck.
