Last season’s 4:0 win over PSG was actually the moment when most of the experts believed that Bordeaux has enough quality to end the 7-year dominance of Lyon. The prognosis became true and Bordeaux won the title, while that win against PSG was just the beginning of their incredible series of wins that continued this season as well. Coach Laurent Blanc knows that staying in the top and defending the title is much harder than winning it for the first time. His side was a bit more focused on the CL, but Bordeaux is still at the top of the standings with 2 points more than Lyon. Since they already qualified further in a group together with Bayern and Juventus, Blanc intends to again refocus on the league until the play in CL resumes. The good news for Bordeaux is that Yoann Gourcuff is back to the pitch after a light injury, but the Brazilian midfielders Fernando and Wendel are suspended, while their third Brazilian, Henrique, is injured.
Slowly finding the right direction
With only 4 wins in all competition since the end of August, it seems that the team from the French capital has very few reasons to be optimistic. After the fantastic start in the league, it seemed like Antoine Kombouare’s side can be considered as potential title candidate. However, a downfall in form followed during the period when their striker Mevlut Erding was sidelined with an injury. Now, when the Turk is back in play he isn’t able to play at the level from the stsrt of this season but a progress compared to the past month was obvious. In the game of his return, they celebrated vs. Sochaux by 4:1, and despite the fact defeats to Nice and Marseille had followed, the team has regained the confidence with the wins over Auxerre and Boulogne. Goalie Gregory Coupet will be out for the next 3 or 4 months due to an injury he got in the match against Auxerre. Guillaume Hoarau has started with the light practices, and won’t be able to play till January. Right-back Ceara missed their Wednesday encounter due to stomach flu but should play at this game. Mamadou Sakho also missed the visit to Boulogne due to illness but his return is also expected.
Chaban-Delmas fortress
Although they got defeated in their last game they played in front of their crowd, Bordeaux is an absolute favorite at this match. Laurent Blanc’s side is playing excellent at their Stade Chaban-Delmas since he took over. The history shows that the hosts mostly won when these two teams met, and when taken into account that PSG has been playing variable, it’s hard to believe they will be able to surprise the champs and that’s why I will suggest you a bet on the home win.
