After facing problems at the start of the season, Bayern is playing better and better and it can freely be said that according to the form they’re currently showing, they’re one of the best teams in Europe. They won 12 consecutive matches in all competitions, and the way they’re playing that series has great chances of extending. They qualified to the knockout phase of CL with an outstanding win in Turin over Juventus, when they humiliated “the Old Lady” by 4:1. Since then, the Bavarians keep playing better and better and are entering the clash vs. Fiorentina as great favorites. The main contribution to their excellent play is given by two extraordinary midfielders that dominate at all matches – Ribery and Robben. Both had some injury problems, but since they again became regulars, everything has been going perfect for their team. Controversial Van Gaal finally has got reasons to be pleased as his team is playing the way anybody would wish for. As far as their lineup is concerned, there won’t be much mixing there so the following eleven could be expected: Butt - Lahm, van Buyten, Demichelis, Badstuber - Robben, van Bommel, Schweinsteiger, Ribery - Gomez, T. Müller. Van Gaal emphasized that they have to especially pay attention as they will be facing “wounded” Fiorentina, and all Italian clubs can be very unpleasant no matter what form they’re in. There’s no doubt his players will listen to the coach and enter this match fully seriously.
Disaster
Fiorentina entered big crisis in a very bad moment. When most needed, or when everything is being resolved in their domestic championship and in CL, they’re playing the worst football since the start of the season. It seems like the huge problems in the squad have been created cause of Mutu’s suspension. Everyone, even their most quality players, seem totally lost and it’s simply unbelievable that a team of such quality draws just once in the past 5 matches, losing 4 times. Their main stars Gilardino and Jovetic can simply not be recognized and it’s questionable when they will again even start playing at their usual level. Coach Prandelli said he simply can’t believe how low his team has fallen and it will take a real miracle for his fellows to wake up and avoid further downfall. He is hoping that could happen against Bayern exactly, as everybody in his team will be fully motivated. They put up some outstanding performances in CL and deservedly taken the first spot in the group in front of favored Lyon and Liverpool. Now they will be awaiting the toughest match so far as they’re visiting one of the best teams in Europe. There’s no doubt Fiora will play to achieve as best result as possible, and try to avoid a heavy defeat in Munich. The fact the return leg will be played in front of their fans is where they see their chance. According to Prandelli, scoring a goal would significantly make their job easier, while even a narrow defeat wouldn’t be disappointing. The following lineup has been announced: S. Frey - Comotto, Kröldrup, Felipe, Pasqual - Montolivo, Bolatti - Marchionni, Jovetic, Vargas - Gilardino.
Hard game for Viola
I can’t avoid saying Fiorentina’s chances at this match are very small, almost close to none. Bayern is in top form, and the “Violets” are totally out of everything. The fact Fiorentina recorded 5 wins in their 6 CL matches this season should definitely be something to respect, but that was at times when some other atmosphere was around the Italian team. This way, they can only hope for a miracle and potentially for some bad day of Bayern’s. I don’t believe in something like that and expect a clear home win.
